When we encounter stressful thoughts or situations during our day, our muscles tense in response, our body often staying on high alert longer than it needs to. My favorite ways to help my body’s natural process of coming back to balance (or regulating my nervous system) from stress: deep breathing, meditation/mindfulness, movement (walking, yoga...), creating art or playing music, co-regulating with people/community I feel safe with, being in nature, massages, baths/hot tubs, and listening to calming music. This is how we flow through life — paying attention to when we are still holding tension and having good practices in place to relax and release. What are some of the things that help you relax and come back to a restful, more regulated state?
